The Rhythm of War Release Party Details + Swag Bundle

Hello, everyone! Adam here. I’ve heard that there has been a bit of confusion surrounding some of the details that have recently come out regarding signed copies of Rhythm of War and the release party scheduled for Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

If you’ve been watching Brandon’s Live Signing Sessions on his YouTube channel, then you probably have a good idea at how many copies he’s signed for Tor to distribute to independent bookstores scattered across the country. Well, as of yesterday, several thousand of those signed copies had already sold out at Barnes & Noble, so you’ll have to check with your local independent bookstores to see if they’re a store Tor has selected.

How to Get Signed & Numbered Editions of Rhythm of War

The only way to get a signed and numbered copy of Rhythm of War is by joining us for the online celebration for its release on November, 17th, 2020. Joining this virtual event will give you access to the exclusive livestream with Brandon Sanderson—where you will get a sneak peek at one of Brandon’s new projects—and meet special guests, get a signed and numbered copy of Rhythm of War—with an exclusive launch day stamp—plus exclusive swag from Tor. There is more release day swag available, but I’ll talk about that in a minute.

If you’re wondering if one of the ten bookshops is near you, here is the complete list.

BYU Bookstore (Provo, UT)
FoxTale Book Shoppe (Woodstock, GA)
Harvard Bookstore (Cambridge, MA)
Left Bank Books (St Louis, MO)
Literati Bookstore (Ann Arbor, MI)
Murder by the Book (Houston, TX)
Mysterious Galaxy (San Diego, CA)
Quail Ridge Books (Raleigh, NC)
University Bookstore (Seattle, WA)
Weller Book Works (Salt Lake City, UT)

More Swag!

If you want some release day swag, but aren’t interested in the Online Release Party, you can order our swag bundle which includes a “Strength Before Weakness” t-shirt, glow-in-the-dark silicone bracelet, and lanyard. Order here.

There are also some cool add-ons you can order. Like a Willshaper pin, the Stormlight Archive sticker pack, and this awesome Chickenscout patch. You should definitely check it out.
Either way, if you can join us or not, we look forward to your seeing the next epic segment of The Stormlight Archive.

The M-Bot Sticker You Never Knew You Needed is Here! https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-m-bot-sticker-you-never-knew-you-needed-is-here/ Mon, 18 Nov 2019 23:26:26 +0000 https://dragonsteel.wpmudev.host/?p=7338 ]]>

The M-Bot Sticker You Never Knew You Needed is Here!

Brandon’s art director Isaac here. My ten-year old daughter—nicknamed “W”—has been reading Skyward in preparation for the release of Starsight on November 26th. She’s read plenty of books before, but this is the first time I’ve seen her dive into something this hefty. Of course, I’m terribly proud of her for reading a book that’s over 500 pages.

W is also an artist with an innate sense for drawing all things cute. She’s watched over the last few months as our Doomslug and Pattern designs have gained popularity, and she’s fallen in love with M-Bot—like many of us have—reading Skyward. So she approached me, a bit of righteous indignation in her attitude, and asked, “M-Bot is awesome. Why doesn’t he have a sticker?”

Scud. She was right. This is something we at Dragonsteel have been talking about for over a year. The problem is time. I explained this to W, that there are a lot of designs we would like to make for stickers and t-shirts, but there just isn’t time to get to all of them.

So she decided to do it herself. She drew a picture of M-Bot.

Then she asked me to take a picture of it so she could ink and color it on the iPad. When W finished, she showed her M-Bot sticker to me.

“Can we make this into a sticker?” she asked.

“That is incredible, W,” I said. “We can definitely make it into a sticker. Do you mind if I fix the perspective a bit?”

She didn’t mind, but when it took longer than a day for me to get around to it, W came to me with the iPad on a Monday night and said, “We’re fixing the sticker right now.”

So we spent the evening working on M-Bot. I fixed the perspective and inked it. Then W took the iPad back to make sure that we were using her original color pallete, so most of the colors are her choice too, including the banana-cream yellow outline, which I actually kind of like. (One of the artists I identify with most—Van Gogh; yes, I know, scary—LOVED yellow. Me…not so much.)

I showed Ben McSweeney, who designed M-Bot for the schematics found in the books, and he said, “You gonna pay the kid?”

It was a good suggestion. I asked W if she wanted to get paid; she hadn’t considered that part before. After thinking about it, she told me what she expected in return for Dragonsteel to use her design. Her demands were reasonable.

When I showed Brandon the M-Bot sticker design at our weekly art review, I didn’t even have to ask him about paying W. He basically asked the same thing Ben had, “Are we going to pay her?”

So I listed W’s expectations. “She wants to be paid in Barbie dolls.”

After getting the thumbs up from Brandon and Emily, W showed me the Barbie she’s been wanting for awhile, and Dragonsteel ordered it. (I should’ve asked W to invoice me like I do with all the other artists I work with. Maybe next time.) Two days later, W’s payment arrived in the mail.

And a few days after that, the stickers arrived!

These will be available at the Starsight release party on November 26th at the Dragonsteel booth. Or, if you can’t make it to the party, we’ll be adding a sticker to every order in December, so when you order from the store, make sure to request which sticker you want.

I hope you’ll be able to make it to the release and get to ooh and ah over W’s artwork. 🙂 In the meantime, she has a new book to read that just arrived at the Dragonsteel offices. Between getting her sticker idea published, a new Barbie, and the chance to read Starsight a little early, I think W is quite the lucky kid!

For those interested, I tend to share art-related posts (and other random things) over on my Instagram: @izykstewart. For example, I recently revealed the official Nalthis star chart there, and it’s also the place where I’ll soon be unveiling the symbol for Nalthis, which will feature prominently on the spine of the upcoming Warbreaker leatherbound.

Starsight Release Party

Adam here. We are only three weeks away from the release of Starsight and its coinciding party. As we’ve said before, if you’re hoping to get a personalized copy of one of Brandon’s books this holiday season, your only opportunity will be at the Starsight release party on November 26th.

This will be a ticketed event but free tickets are available, though they don’t guarantee you a seat. More on this later.

The party starts at 6:00 p.m. at Mountain View High school in Orem, Utah and will include:

    • Games, prizes, and swag
    • Starsight photo booth and cosplayer photo booth.
    • Author reading
    • Artist booths for Bryan Mark Taylor, Howard Lyon, Miranda Meeks, and Steve Argyle.
    • Merchandise booths with the Brandon Sanderson Store, Barnes & Noble, and Badali Jewelry.
    • Other booths featuring the Lightweaver Foundation (more on this below), 17th Shard, and Wandering Game Nights.

The Lightweaver Foundation, which is Brandon’s charitable foundation, will be doing a book drive for the Road Home Library in Salt Lake City. So if you have any books you’d like to share, they’ll be doing a raffle (with each book being worth one ticket) for a “Mega” Sanderson gift basket. They also accept cash and card donations. We know books are heavy and you probably won’t want to tote them around the party, so we are providing an easy dropoff box next to the ticketing office, or we can send a helper with you to get them from your vehicle.

We are providing several different ticketing options for attendees but be sure to get your tickets soon as online ticket orders will close on November 23rd at 11:30 p.m. (MDT)

    • Free Admission Pass – this will get you into the party. No book. And no guaranteed seat.
    • Pre-order Book and Pass – this ticket gets you into the party and ONE (1) reserved area seat, a pre-signed copy of Starsight, and a Doomslug lanyard. Plus One Passes are available if you want to have someone accompany you. The Plus One Pass includes access to the event, a reserved area seat, and the Doomslug lanyard. Ages 10+ need a ticket for a seat.
    • VIP Pass – This ticket gets you into the party and a pre-signed copy of Starsight, ONE (1) VIP reserved area seat, Starsight swag bag, premier event T-shirt (below), and Doomslug lanyard. VIP Plus One Passes are available if you wantg someone to accompany you. The VIP Plus One Pass includes entry to the VIP reserved seating area, Starsight swag bag, premiere event T-shirt (below), and Doomslug lanyard. Ages 10+ need a ticket for a seat.

Designed by Isaac Stewart and Ben McSweeney.

Where to pick up your pass

9:00–5:30 p.m. at the Orem Barnes & Noble.

5:00–11:00 p.m. at the Mountain View High School Auditorium

Release day purchases of the book, event pass, and other products, are possible, but priority will be given to orders placed before 11:30 p.m. November 23rd.

Skyward is out next week! https://www.brandonsanderson.com/skyward-is-out-next-week/ Thu, 01 Nov 2018 05:10:20 +0000 https://dragonsteel.wpmudev.host/?p=3139

Skyward is out next week!

Adam here. With Skyward being released next week I wanted to go over the few options you have to get a signed and numbered copy as well as the release party details.

If you’ve been paying attention to Brandon’s social media channels none of what I’m about to tell you will come as a surprise. And don’t forget: by pre-ordering Skyward, and filling out this form, you can receive an exclusive map print featuring the world of Skyward signed by Brandon!

Option One
The first option is to “pre-order” your book by calling or visiting the Orem Barnes & Noble. You don’t need to pay for it when ordering but it gets your name on the list so you are guaranteed a book for the release party.

I will go into more details on this later.

Option Two
For those unable to attend the release party in Orem—or if you like to donate to charity—your best option is to order a copy from Weller Book Works. There are only 500 copies available and they can only be ordered from their website. Specific details are on their website, but these few points will give you the gist.

  • They ship internationally
  • Continuing the tradition we started with Oathbringer, we are asking for small donations for inscriptions. If you’re looking for just your name and a quote of Brandon’s choosing, it is $5.00. If you’re looking for anything other than that (some have asked for limericks in the past), we’re asking for a $20.00 donation.

Details for the release party

9:00 a.m. – Doors open and wristbands will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. Your line number is your book number with the first 300 book numbers being reserved for those on the pre-order list.

6:00 p.m. – Readers can begin to assemble at the Orem Barnes & Noble. There will be a raffle, game, and picture op available.

7:00 p.m. – Brandon’s presentation followed by a Q&A. The signing will begin as soon as Brandon is finished.

A few additional notes

  • One numbered wristband per Skyward book. One companion wristband may be requested per number.
  • If you are bringing your own copy of Skyward, you may request a book number, but it will be after all the Barnes & Noble numbered books.
  • If you are coming to the signing and you are not planning to bring a Skyward book to be signed, you may receive a wristband for the event but will be asked to wait until the numbered wristbands have been asked to line up. A purchase is not required, but encouraged.
  • If you do not want a Skyward book signed, but have other books you would like signed by Brandon, you will receive a different colored wristband and will be admitted into the line after all the line numbers have been called.
  • All books will need to be paid for before you leave the event. Not prior to the event.

A note about numbered copies of Skyward:

Skyward book numbers will be shared with other bookstores (like Weller Book Works), so the book numbers available for the release event are as follows:

    • The Orem Barnes & Noble event will have the following book numbers for copies of Skyward pre-ordered through them:
  • 1-99, 200-299, 400-499
    • Those who wait to buy the book at the Orem Barnes & Noble on the day of release will have the following book numbers:
  • 600-699, 800-899*
    • Those who are bringing a Skyward book NOT purchased from the Orem B&N will be given these book numbers:
  • 1000-1099, etc.*

*These numbers will be pushed back if pre-orders exceed 300.

10:00 pm – Tor Books has given the release party exclusive permission to release the books at midnight in New York! That means 10:00 pm here. We will distribute books and the signing line will begin.

Because of the earlier release time, many of the activities will actually continue until midnight. So fans will have something to do while waiting for their line numbers to be called.

Signed and Numbered Books

Pre-orders will start Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00 pm MDT at this link (won’t load until that time).
Order by November 9th to guarantee a signed/#’d book at the party.
As your shipping option, choose “Pick up on BYU Campus.”
PLEASE NOTE! Wristbands to get into the Release Party are separate from buying the book.

Your book # is determined by when you pre-order your book, first come, first served, starting with #100. (If you want the chance at a lower number, see the Camping section below.)

When your order is processed (November 10th), you will receive a receipt via email to use at the release party as proof of purchase and to verify your line number. PLEASE NOTE: No receipt. No book.

ACHTUNG! It is very likely that BYU will not have a lot of extra copies of the book for sale at the release party, so if you want a guaranteed signed/#’d book at the midnight release, you MUST pre-order one!

As we’ve done at previously release events, the books will be pre-signed and pre-numbered. After picking up your book, you may opt to skip the personalization line and leave before the station wagon turns back into a pumpkin, or you may choose to stay and get your book personalized after you pick it up.
