Golden Pheasant, Another Pilsner Beer Reviewed by Brandon C. Hovey

Beer: Golden Pheasant

Beer Style: Pilsner

Brewery: Pivovar Zlaty Bazant a.s.

Country of Origin: Slovak Republic

Abv: 5%

Serving Methodology: 500 ml bottle poured into Budweiser pint

Background: I have been on a pilsner kick lately. I’ve seen this beer around countless of times. It was time to explore. Let’s take the plunge.

Taste & Aroma: The aroma here is wet grain from the start to a biscuity smelling malt at the finish, not too bad. The flavor here is as expected for a pilsner really. Spicy hops at the start give it a good bite throughout the beer. A malt backbone is present though. Unlike others in its class, there’s not much of a bite at the finish. Its more on the clean side.

Final Analysis: This is a good example of a pilsner. Is it my favorite? Absolutely not, the finish is counter-intuitive to what I expect from a beer of this class: a pilsner. Again, this wasn’t bad. But it is far from what I was expecting. Perhaps it is better from the can or on draught?

  1. Great article, dude! I’m not a huge Pilsner fan, usually, but I had a Lagunitas Pils the other night and it’s so good! I might pick some more Pilsner’s up now that the weather’s warming up. Check out my blog if you have a chance! Cheers!

    1. Thanks, buddy! I’m not big on pilsners either. I’m looking forward to reviewing the next two beers in my fridge. I’ve not had Lagunitas Pils yet, but I’ve seen it at stores. I need to check it out just like I need to check out your blog.
