Beer: Corona Familiar
Beer Style: Lager
Abv: 6.00%
Serving Methodology: Quart poured into pint glass
Country of Origin: Mexico
Brewery: Grupo Modelo
Background: This is one of those beers that you see at the bottom of the liquor store cooler over and over again. This is Corona’s hidden gem. They don’t advertise this beer. It is often mistaken for being the mega-serving of Corona. When in fact it is better than Corona Extra or Corona Light.
Taste & Aroma: The nose is one of wet grain, and that is about it. Nothing special about the aroma. The flavor is where it is at, neighbor. The sharpness of the flavor and the warming malt here are the openings to this simple, yet underappreciated beer. The clean finish reminds one of that Great American Lager.
Final Analysis: This is one of the best simple beers I have ever had. I cannot say too many negative things about it considering it follows that time honored maxim of Keep It Simple, Stupid (KISS).
At the same time though, something is missing. And what is missing is bite. I am eager to try this on draught.
