Mourning for a Tragedy by Brandon C. Hovey

I am grieving for the lost and hurting for the families in Orlando. I am also angered by this event. This is terrorism at home. The work of a homegrown ‘light-sleeper’ terrorist who adapted to his task like the 9-11 hijackers. He had a permit for weapons, and he had a security credential. Radical Islamic Fundamentalism is again striking closer to home. Not only traditional Western civilization is threatened but our alternative communities in our free-thinking society are threatened as well. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight, friends. We never know the hour.

Both traditional western civilization and our alternative communities need to start speaking bolder and making more competent decisions regarding event security, security for places like these, and personal security. We are a free people. We should not have to concern ourselves with messengers of a theocracy that makes our puritan days look like a pleasure cruise.

We are a progressive society that is a leader in human rights, human development, and the human spirit. The criminals that the perpetrator was apart of represent a theocratic regime that seeks to instill both fear and submission to their version of a God. It is time that we actually started to do something against this. I’m not rallying people for war. We’ve had enough war. It is time though to have frank conversations about protecting ourselves from evil actions and evil people such as these.
