Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold (1993)
Platform: PC
Developer: JAM Productions
Publisher: Apogee
Price: I bought this ages ago, I could not tell you. But this is on both GOG and Steam
Background: This is a first generation first person shooter just like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, or Wolfenstein 3D. Has it aged well?
My Thoughts: This is in essence a game that has not aged well compared to Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. This is far from Duke Nukem 3D as well. A lack of the ability to map WASD controls for movement combined with a repetitive style of gameplay collecting keys hurts the accessibility of this game to a wider 21st Century audience. This game has not aged well compared to Dark Forces, Quake, or Duke Nukem 3D.
Should You Play This?: Your call, folks. I would not waste your time. I played four levels and stopped. I played this before years ago and I didn’t mind it. It was a lot like Skyrim. Don’t bother replaying it. Enjoy the linked games instead. Take care to enjoy those and not enjoy something too dated. I will also examine Blake Stone: Planet Strike.
