Beer: Little Secret
Brewery: Triptych
Beer Style: IPA
Abv: 5.00%
Serving Method: Can poured into pint glass
Country of Origin: United States of America (Illinois)
Background: I had never heard of Triptych Brewing until recently. This Savoy, IL brewery has decided to project its products further out from its base of operations adjacent to the Champaign-Urbana, IL area which is not too far from my own region of Peoria, IL. This brewery has a quality product from my first encounter with their portfolio. Let’s take a look.
Taste & Aroma: A floral scent tickles your nose and readies your tastebuds for enjoyment of this quality ale. A touch of malt and some citrus fruits can be picked up too as the beer warms. The flavors in this ale are unforgettable, this is a classic India Pale Ale to those true veterans of the style. A crisp bite opens up with some potent citrus hops following. The can lists Simcoe, Cascade, and Citra hops, and I have no doubt that these a whole cone hops and not pellets with the clarity and quality of the hops in the middle and at the lingering finish!
Fear not, non-hophead. There is a malt backbone that tames, but does not restrain this good ale. This is a beer you can enjoy too if you enjoy less hoppy beers!
Final Analysis: Wow! This is a fabulous, easy drinking IPA that you just cannot beat. If you have not enjoyed a Triptych Little Secret IPA, you are truly missing out.
