Game: The Spy Who Shot Me™
Platform Played: PC
Developer/Publisher: Retro Army Limited
Price On Steam: $10.99
Background: I first played this game on itch.io. I had mixed impressions with the early access game. I enjoyed its tribute to Bond games of old: Nightfire, The World Is Not Enough, and Goldeneye 64. However, I hated the fact that the game was cursed with time limits that were obscene to say the least. I complained to the developer about it. I’m sure I wasn’t the only complainant. The game has less time limits now. Although, at times those sequences are quite frustrating.
A tribute to Bond games and movies: Influences from Dr. No, Thunderball, Goldeneye, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, The World Is Not Enough, The Spy Who Loved Me, and other fine James Bond adventures are celebrated in various tropes. They can be set pieces, characters, plotlines, and even dialogue. The images below will certainly tease you into buying this game.
Final Analysis: If you loved the old Bond games mentioned above and the Bond movies as well, I think you need to give this a chance. Maybe you’ll like it. Check out some screenies from the credits. They’re inspired by Goldeneye.
